3 Nights. 3 Films. 3 Countries

The Wildcat Film Appreciation Society (WFAS) is hosting a three-day film festival on November 10, 11, & 12. Each day features a film from a different part of the world representing various countries, languages, and cultures. The film screenings will be followed by open discussions on the film to discuss the cultural significance of those films. Day 1 (Nov 10): The Hunt (2012) (Denmark)

Venue: Wildcat Chamber, K-State Union Building Ground Floor

Mads Mikkelsen delivers one of his best performances, perfectly capturing the tension of this petrifying psychological drama.

Synopsis: Within a small Danish village, a divorced kindergarten teacher celebrates Christmas with his class. After being accused of sexually abusing one of his pupils, he is laid victim of mass hysteria and must find a way to prove himself innocent.

Day 2 (Nov 11): Paprika (2006) (Japan)

Time: 7 P.M. - 10 P.M. (Door Opens at 6:30 P.M.)

Venue: Forum Hall, K-State Union Building Bottom Floor

Director: Satoshi Kon

The explosive final film of the late 46-year-old director Satoshi Kon, competitor for the Golden Lion at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival, Paprika is in all aspects unlike any animated film ever created. With a surrealist science fiction plot and ballistic visuals, it is regarded as one of the best animated films of all time.

Synopsis: A device called the "DC Mini" is invented that perfectly records dreams, which is suddenly stolen and modified to invade and replace other people's dreams by an unknown "dream terrorist". Scientists and everyday people are rendered hysteric to the terrorist's psychological whims, and it is up to the scientists who created the DC Mini to find this terrorist before the world is lost in their own delusions.

Day 3 (Nov 12): The Wailing (2016) (South Korea)

An atmospheric masterpiece, The Wailing captures the true horror of the unknown via an isolated and chilling rural village along with a grimly enchanting display of Korean mythology, exorcisms, and the macabre.

Synopsis: A policeman is dispatched to a remote Korean village to investigate a series of gruesome killings and illnesses. His ambition to solve this abnormal case is soon emblazed, his daughter having been laid victim of the enigmatic disease. He explores the village with an unyielding determination for the sake of not only his daughter, but soon himself.
