Join YDSA in welcoming an accomplished speaker, author, and critical theorist Dr. Gabriel Rockhill from Villanova to his home state in Kansas. Returning to his roots he hopes to show us what to know about the threats and trends of American politics today. He will give a keynote speech and be open for questions at the end.

Gabriel Rockhill is a philosopher, cultural critic and activist who publishes in French and English. His work is dedicated to a materialist analysis of the social totality, and it has thus far focused primarily on the three intertwining themes of history, politics and culture. He is Founder and Executive Director of the Critical Theory Workshop/Atelier de Théorie Critique, Professor of Philosophy and Global Interdisciplinary Studies at Villanova University, Director of Cultural Studies at Villanova University, Research Associate at the Laboratoire d’anthropologie politique – LAP (EHESS, Paris), one of the editors-in-chief of the World Marxist Review, co-editor of the book series AIM–Anti-Imperialist Marxism, and former Directeur de programme at the Collège International de Philosophie. He holds master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in philosophy, the historical social sciences and political theory from the Université de Paris VIII and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, where he worked under the supervision of Luce Irigaray (M.A. Director), Jacques Derrida (M.A. Director), Jean-Louis Fabiani (M.A. Director), Alain Badiou (Ph.D. Supervisor) and Étienne Balibar (President Ph.D. Committee).
