Welcome to the Spring 2025 Semester!
As we dive into an exciting new academic term at KSU, I’m thrilled to introduce you to the Scholar’s Roundtable—a unique student organization and journal club where we discuss and critique research literature in health, medicine, and the social sciences.
What is a journal club? A journal club is a group of individuals who regularly meet to critically discuss and analyze recent research articles from academic journals, typically within a specific field, to stay updated on current research, learn critical appraisal skills, and improve their understanding of research methodologies by actively evaluating published papers together; essentially, it's a forum for discussing and critiquing scientific literature with peers.
The Scholar’s Roundtable is designed to create a dynamic, collaborative space where members can critically examine and discuss peer-reviewed articles. Together, we’ll explore interdisciplinary perspectives on the latest research available, delving into how this research informs health policy and further advances in science and medicine. By fostering evidence-based dialogue, we aim to sharpen critical thinking skills, broaden intellectual horizons, and share the tools and resources to better understand how to properly digest and review research journals.
As of now, we'll meet once a month via Zoom. Stay tuned for the announcement of our first meeting date later this week—we can’t wait to see you there! We will also be sharing the first journal, so be sure to keep an eye out so that you may have time to read the paper. Because we are a brand new student organization, we may change some things up here and there as we gain more feedback! Please feel free to send questions, concerns, and comments my way!
Thank you for being a part of the Scholar's Roundtable! On behalf of our board, welcome and we can't wait to meet you!
