Welcome Back
Hello! My name is Samantha Suchanek, and I am incredibly proud to serve as your new President! If you don't yet know me, I am a junior in Political Science. I love manatees, and blue is my favorite color both on and off the ballot ๐.
I'd like to take this moment to congratulate our previous president Kelm Lear on his new position as Chair of the Riley County Democratic Party. He did wonderful things to lead this organization during his two terms, and we look forward to further collaboration with the county party. Lastly, Alondra Alvarez is hard at work, as the new Vice President.
Moving Forward
Your executive team and I have been working hard to plan some fun events for us this semester. Our goal is to make this club a beacon of community, where like-minded individuals can come together and have some fun. However, we also want to recommit ourselves to collective action. So, we will be doing a Day of Service every month! This month our volunteer opportunity will be at the Manhattan Emergency Shelter.
Additionally, Washington Days is on February 28th! This is an annual statewide event and a great opportunity to connect with democratic leadership from across the state. One of our alumni is running for president of the Kansas Young Dems. If you are interested in attending, shoot me an email!
Now, more than ever, it is important to unite and support one another. Elections are won and lost every day, not just at the ballot box, but in the way we engage with each other, make decisions, and build our communities.
"No one changes the world alone and no one doesn’t change it at all." - Hank Green.
